The BIR training course is the simplest pathway to gaining a rating to fly in limited visibility. It is dedicated to General Aviation pilots who fly light single-engine aircraft. It is an excellent base for further Competence Based training, which expands a pilot’s ability to fly in difficult conditions.

One of the main advantages of BIR training is the flexible syllabus based on the pilot’s competencies and the accessible exam question base, covering only key topics for light aircraft such as the Cirrus SR. In addition, pilots trained according to the BIR format benefit from a smaller syllabus, not having to assimilate knowledge that is only useful on very demanding and larger aircraft.

As an authorised Cirrus Aircraft centre, we ensure that the student acquires the practical knowledge necessary to fly IFR proficiently and safely. We place great emphasis on a proper understanding of the aircraft itself on which the course is delivered – the Cirrus SR Series. However, the training is also an excellent platform for pilots of other aircraft equipped with Garmin avionics.

An important distinction that results from the use of Cirrus aircraft and has a direct bearing on the quality of the training is the fact that we carry out the practical part by flying the routes. With us, you will visit a large part of Poland during your training, as well as realise flights outside the country.

The theoretical training is based on an interactive e-learning platform and individual classes with an instructor. The programme includes 7 subjects, divided into 3 modules.

  • Air Law

  • Flight Planning

  • Human Performance

  • IFR Communications

  • Instrumentation

  • Meteorology

  • Radio Navigation

Each module can be taken individually. The question base for the BIR theory exam is estimated to be 50% smaller than the traditional IRa and 20% smaller than the CBIR exam, respectively.

Once a pilot has gained 50 hours of PIC/PICUS experience flying IFR based on the BIR, he or she has the opportunity to undertake a 4-day course to prepare for the practical examination based on the CBIR path. Once passed, he/she will gain the ability to perform light aircraft operations according to the minima specific to holders of an IR earned under the CBIR.

BIR to CBIR competency development pathway:

1

Basic Instrument Rating training

2

BIR practical and theoretical exam

3

50h IFR flight experience

4

4-day CBIR course

5

CBIR skill test

A CBIR rating entitles pilots of light aircraft to fly in limited visibility conditions under similar rules to a full IRa. This is a great and safe option for general aviation pilots!

An IR rating earned according to the BIR path does not entitle you to undertake Vision Jet Type Rating training. It is, however, a good foundation to enable a smooth transition to CBIR. The next step is a 2-day High Performance Aircraft training course immediately prior to type rating training. For this reason, the BIR is also a recommended solution for future Vision Jet pilots!
